A male college student was struggling in his choice of careers. What he had in abilities he lacked in direction. Frustrated and somewhat depressed, he decided to let the universe decide the matter. He asked God for a sign, and was given one.
“I was walking to my car when I found a book lying in a puddle by the driver’s side door. The title read, The Psychology of Influence and Persuasion. It was so odd to find it there that I thought it might be the sign I had asked for. Thirty-five years later I still have that book, all 322 wrinkled pages of it. It’s what got me into the field of marketing and sales. God works in mysterious ways,” he reflected with a smile.
Sometimes the ways of God seem even more mysterious when we misinterpret the signs.
Although this man’s career was reasonably successful, his adult life was not a terribly happy one. Alcoholism, two divorces, and the death of a child, mirrored the discord of his inner life. When he found the book he was a young man attracted to power. He was manipulative and self-centered in his relationships. Rather than encouraging him into a marketing career, the sign was actually telling him that his drive for influence over people needed to be dissolved. The book’s placement in a parking lot puddle also equates it with discarded trash. In other words, God doesn’t think much of his psychology of influence and persuasion.
Signs and synchronicities, like dreams, are not easily interpreted. The personality is a complex, dynamic, and multileveled being. It has its own language which takes years to learn and, even then, is never grasped in its entirety. In addition, there are forces within your personal psychology, similar to this man’s drive to power, that lead to biases in your perceptions and interpretations. Learning the language of the soul is one of the most challenging things you will do in life. But it is also one of the most important and rewarding. The right interpretation could save you from living the wrong life.

Hi Andy!
First of all thank you for your website.
It has thought me so much and given answer to questions I have had for such a long time regarding dreams. Your articles and analysis of dreams has been priceless, so thank you so much for that. If you had some input on this dream it would be nice. Have difficulty amplifying the plane, the highway of cars and the smoke coming from the factory.
10.Mai. 2020.
I dreamt that how cool would it be to fly a helicopter or and an airplane. Next thing was that I was in an airplane with others there was few of us, no one I know in real life.
The plane was out of control and it might crash the pilot manage to control it, but has soon as he does.
We fly pass a factory and the one of the person said we are all going to die of cancer. Because of the might be cancerous smoke released from the factory just below us. One girl was not to upset about it as is not much we can we do.
We now found ourselves top off a bridge on a highway trying to find a way to make the cars and truck notice us so we can get help. I was holding a tortilla chips the bag.
We needed to find a way to get the attention of the traffic below us so we can get help. I empty the tortilla bag on a truck below as it was to pass by the bridge. There was alot of cars in motion. The truck stopped because I managed to get its attention as the chips was blocking the sight of his truck.
The truck drives up to our bridge and offer help. I think it had two arrow a recycling symbols on the truck made of two shades of green colours.
The airplane when we was on it was an ordinary plane but also changes somewhat to a platform plane as with no roof when flying pass the factory.
Hi Kevin,
They say that what goes up must come down. This is true of our ego as well. If we get too “high,” or disconnected from the earth and practical reality, things happen that bring us back down to earth. Sometimes these are outer events. Sometimes they are depressive or anxious mood states that arise from within. In the dream, you are suspended high above the ground in a plane, and later on the top of a bridge. The plane is going to crash, it seems, and when we get too high psychologically, we also crash. Sometimes we get too high through drug use, over-idealistic attitudes/perspectives, or egocentric (self-centered) viewpoints and goals.
With regard to the smoke from the factories causing cancer, it would seem that the smoke is more of a danger to the people in the air than to those on the ground. Perhaps this is another sign of the need to come back “down to earth.”Like a noxious factory, people belch, people have body odor, people fart. Being human is often a stinky, noxious affair. But it is who we are. Life is challenging and painful, but that is part of our individuation and personal growth process. Sometimes we need to get above it all–soar like a bird or climb a mountain–to get the big picture and a better understanding of how everything fits together. But eventually we must come back down to earth and use what we have learned to help others.
Fortunately, in the dream, you get back down to earth fairly safely (thank God for tortilla chips). You are helped by a truck with a recycling symbol on it, perhaps another way of saying that what goes up must come back down.
I hope these thoughts are of some help. Thank you for sharing your dream.
